About the Artist

Roger Mendoza

So, this is supposed to be the place on my site where I describe myself in an eloquent manner and sell myself to you the reader/art lover (hopefully of my work).  Trouble is, I have a hard time describing myself, for I am a different person everyday.  It’s not that I want to be different; it’s just that I am.  I change all the time; sometimes I fly low, sometimes I fly high, sometimes I fly north, sometimes I fly south.  I change direction all the time and the same goes for my art.  Aside from all the madness, though, I consider myself to be a good person who has a natural, selfless care for other matters in the world.  I care about the environment, for those who can’t speak for themselves; I admire revolutions because they inspire change (sometimes positive change, sometimes negative), and I esteem visionaries who have the courage to define their lives by their passions.

I hate routines; my bursts of artistic inspiration come when they come.  The minute my art becomes a routine will the minute signifying the end of my creative expression.  Most of my paintings have been created while you sleep, in the early hours of dawn with the palm trees in my backyard swaying with the breeze and my music playlist coming from the speakers.  Music moves me and transports me to another place; my own little world.

As far as my style, creativity, quality or quantity, I don’t have any expectations.  I will continue to paint what I want when I feel like it (and of course when I am commissioned).  That said, I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember.  I haven’t found a specific style that I really like; instead I love them all, as they all inspire me and move me in different ways allowing me to pull from all the variations of techniques to produce my work.  I get inspiration from everywhere, through random life experiences, my emotional well-being, the ability to influence others, music, and the embarrassment of injustice to the human race.

Roger MendozaIt’s difficult to please everyone, and while my paintings have been called grotesque, perverted, powerful, offensive, erotic, dynamic, vibrant, and colorful, I like to think that everyone can find something that moves them in at least one of my paintings.  I have a passion for the unique and the unconventional, and believe that comes through in my art.  My only hope is that my art moves you, and that you may share that feeling with the ones you love.
